Hydraulic Cylinder Design, Hydraulic Cylinder Manufacturers
Hydraulic cylinders are used in heavy machineries to transfer power by using high pressure oil against the surface area of a piston within the cylinder. A hydraulic cylinder provides linear force in one axis in either one or two directions. The hydraulic cylinder design typically consists of a tube, piston, rod, gland and end cap.
In a hydraulic cylinder, oil is filled in at either end via some type of 'port' and the piston is sealed to the tube by a sealing agent and also between the rod and the gland by a single acting seal. A wiper seal is used in the gland to keep it dirt free. The pressure acts upon the piston surface and causes the cylinder to produce a linear movement. Because the rod is fixed to the piston, it also moves. Application of hydraulic pressure through the port to one side of the piston causes it to move in one direction, and pressure through the opposite side causes it to move in the opposite direction. Generally Hydraulic cylinder manufacturers produce two types of cylinders- single acting cylinders and double acting cylinders. In a single acting cylinder, oil only acts on one side of the piston so it can only be mechanically moved in one direction. In this cylinder design the force is limited by the surface area of the rod, whereas in a cylinder with a piston, the rod can be of any size and the force can be calculated or controlled by the piston design. Typically one end of the tube is fixed and on the end of the rod is attached the object to be moved, although it is possible to fix the end of the rod, and attach the object being moved to the end of the tube. In a double acting cylinder the closing power is always less than the opening power due to a reduced surface area of the piston. This reduced surface area is exactly the surface area of the end of the rod. Lodematic is amongst the leading Hydraulic cylinder manufacturers offering customized hydraulic cylinder design, hydraulic jacks, hydraulic rams, hand pump and ram pump in the UK.Question... What type\kind did Leonardo De Vinci would have used in his Hydraulic water pump design? I am planning on building a copy of his Hydraulic Water Pump (http://imagecache5.art.com/p/LRG/29/2939/JUYRD00Z/leonardo-da-vinci-hydraulic... the one on the the bottom. and i have figured almost everything out, but i was wondering what kind of pump he would have used to pump the water to the higher level?
i would like to use one that uses no electricity, and will move close to 100% of the water to the higher level- so it will constantly will keep on working.

archimedes' screw powered by a water trough with water wheel. This would convert kinetic energy of a flowing stream into potential energy
